BiddingforGood.com

Ever dream of owning your own private island? Or how about a Paris Hilton-autographed stapler? Such a stapler (see photo above) went for $4,101 on a bidding and auction website. But wait. Before you throw your own stapler at the wall, it may help to know that someone's fascination with the party-hopping heiress actually did some good.

BiddingForGood.com, which dedicated its entire business model to benefiting those in need, passed a major milestone today of $100 million in funds raised to support charities and schools across the USA. The "shopping for good" platform connects consumers and marketers to thousands of non-profit auction events each day.

According to the company, top-selling auction categories include travel, dining and, yes, unique one-of-a-kind items such as the Hilton stapler or experiences such as a meet-and-greet with Lady Gaga. Driven by proprietary algorithms developed in partnership with a professor at the Harvard School of Business, the platform's ability to help others often gets bidders revved up.

"What I love about BiddingForGood is the combination of great items and giving back. I visit every day," says Scott Allen, a regular bidder from San Diego.

This enthusaism has led to big returns for non-profit partners. According to the company, clients have raised $61 million in reported sponsorship revenue, almost $500,000 in cash donations, and slightly less than $250,000 in ticket sales from their fundraising platform.

"Online is where the world is going," said Jennifer Nelson of Cancer Community Center in South Portland, Maine. "We have gotten more bids, raised more money and delivered more value to our item donors by using BiddingForGood"
