Housing Discounts for Volunteer Hours

Preferred Corporate Housing, one of the nation’s premier temporary housing providers is launching a program that will give its guests the opportunity to receive a significant discount off their monthly housing rate in exchange for at least 4 hours of their time. They are calling the program, ‘Preferred Charity Helpers,’ which is a play on the letters from their business name (PCH). Through this program, Preferred Corporate Housing is partnering with Habitat for Humanity and Feeding America, along with various other organizations that offer volunteering opportunities all over the United States.

“We came up with the idea while trying to figure out ways we could get involved in our community,” said Samantha Elliott, President of Preferred Corporate Housing. “We provide temporary housing for people all over the U.S. in conjunction with relocations, temporary assignments, installation programs, and many other individual needs, so we thought this program would impact multiple communities an could create a viral awareness of how easy it is to get involved,” said Elliott.

Here’s an example of how the program works: A project manager from Houston has been assigned a temporary project in St Louis, MO, so he is staying in a fully furnished PCH apartment. He is away from his family, and doesn’t have much of a social life while he’s there, but is always looking for something to do on the days he is not working. Through PCH’s Online Housing Manager and Preferred Charity Helper webpage (corporates.com/charity.php), he can search for local volunteer opportunities from various charity organizations, and in exchange for his volunteer time, PCH will discount his rent.

“We call it a win-win-win solution,” said Michelle Velasquez, Special Projects Coordinator at PCH. “Local communities and volunteer organizations get qualified volunteers, our guests receive discounted rates which they can take back to their corporate offices and budgets, and by facilitating this process, we have planted a seed about the good that can come from community involvement. We’re hoping this program will create a viral movement, and that our guests will take their stories and savings back to their corporate offices and entice other coworkers to get involved as well,” said Velasquez.
